ABOUT BASMATI
Basmati rice is a long grain rice variety known for its dedicate scent and flavour. Its Hindi name translate to "Queen of Fragrance".
"Basmati" is a long grain aromatic rice variety that has been grown for centuries in a specific geographical area in the Himalayan foothills of the Indian subcontinent. Blessed with extra-long slender grains that elongate at least twice their original size when cooked, delicious taste, superior aroma, and distinct flavour, Basmati rice is unique among other aromatic long grain rice varieties.
Varieties
The main varieties of Basmati rice as notified under the seeds Act, 1966 are Basmati 1509, Sharbati Rice, Basmati 386, Basmati 217, Ranbir Basmati, Karnal Local/Taraori Basmati, Basmati 370, Type-3 (Dehradooni Basmati), Pusa Basmati-1, Pusa Basmati 1121, Punjab Basmati-1, Haryana-Basmati-1, Kasturi and Mahi Sugandha.
Exports
India is the world's biggest exporter of Basmati Rice. During the 2020-21 fiscal year, the country shipped 46,30,463.14 MT of Basmati Rice to the world for a total value of Rs. 29,849.89 crores (or $4,018.71 millions dollars).
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Iraq, Libya, and Kuwait are among the major export destinations for 2020-21.
